What does your marketing karma say about you?
According to Wikipedia, Karma is the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in. Destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.
Most of us are taught the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” This can be directly related to the core of marketing. Your ability to successfully market yourself, service, or product, you have to be perceived as trustworthy and easily connect with your audience. What better way to accomplish this than to practice good karma marketing?
I believe that our first instinct is to be selfish and try to set yourself above the pack by not sharing information, or not offering what’s really best for the customer but what benefits you or your service. When actually the opposite is true. The more your friends, customers, and the public look to you as a trusted advisor or expert, you will gain more business while also helping other businesses along the way.
Creating your good marketing karma can be a great way to learn about yourself and how you are perceived by your friends, customers, and the public.

Making the connection
Create your tribe: Mentors, colleagues, customers
Champion a good cause in the community to cross promote with your service.
Become the hub of information: Share other people’s success

Our definition of Marketing Karma: Effectively marketing your product or service by building a positive image that promotes trust and loyalty with your customers.
As in life, good karma comes from putting positive energy out into the universe and receiving that same positive energy in return. It may sound crazy at first, but it’s been proven by successful businesses that by helping others market their services in return they will see results for their own brand. People begin to see them as not competition, but as a partner. The customer begins to see them as someone who cares about their community and is helping to inform them of what products or services may work best for them...therefore they are perceived as the expert, while building trust, and loyalty for their business.
One of my favorite quotes is, “Love everyone, trust few, and paddle your own canoe.” The way that I interpret this quote is that you look for the best in people, you find people who you can connect with on the same level or interest, and you are always improving yourself as a better person.
I believe that in order for you to effectively market your product or service, you have to be able to communicate and engage with your audience. This often times means that you may have to develop personal skills that will enhance your relationship with your customers.
Set yourself up for success
Create a consistent message that is tailored to the audience that you are trying to reach.
Communicate your message and connect with your audience in the way they connect.
Engage your audience to help measure your impact and obtain feedback to revise your message.
Build Your Audience
Once you have grasped and understand your message and the audience you are trying to reach, now comes the fun part...networking.
Networking can be scary to many people because it forces us out of our comfort zone. We are forced to act on our message and open ourselves to the opinions of our peers.
This is another great reason to improve your “Good Marketing Karma.” When you feel like you are not just being a pushy salesman, but actually helping to inform people of other businesses that may work for their needs, then you are seen as a trusted advisor.
There are many opportunities to network and social media has literally put them at your fingertips.
Your traditional social network can span from professional & community involvement through volunteer opportunities, civic groups, church, extracurricular activities, art, theatre, and much more. Combining this network with the social media network gives you an opportunity to connect with people on a personal and professional level. Few of my favorite social media networks are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and there are new ones popping up every day.
There are many options when it comes to your social network. My recommendation would to become involved in a community event that you are passionate about, be involved in a professional organization that will help you network within your industry, and choose 1 or 2 social media outlets that you feel you can update and monitor on a consistent basis.
Engage your audience:
Now that you have built the foundation for “Good Karma Marketing.” It’s time to put your plan into action.
You have created your message.
You have identified who your audience is and how they connect.
And you have established a network of people who view you as likable and trustworthy.
Now it’s time to follow through and follow up. In many ways this is the easy part, but the most over looked.
